The Taccia Table light by the Italian company Flos, designed by Achille and Piero Giacomo Castiglioni in 1962, is an icon of modern design. The lamp provides indirect and reflected light, ensuring a pleasant and non-dazzling atmosphere. The reflector is made of painted aluminium - glossy white on the outside, matt white on the inside. The directional diffuser made of hand-blown clear glass allows individual adjustment of the light cone. The lighting body is available in several elegant finishes: black, matte white, anodised silver or bronze. The base is made of nickel-plated metal and underlines the industrial-chic character of the lamp. The luminaire is equipped with a 220 cm long cable with integrated dimmer, which allows the luminous flux to be controlled between 10-100%. The power adapter has interchangeable plugs for easy use in different countries. Taccia is available in two sizes to easily adapt to different spaces and interior styles.

Reverse lamp: shade at the bottom, light at the top

At first glance, Taccia may appear unusual - it looks as if it is inverted. This illusion is deliberate. Castiglioni designed light so that the light source is hidden at the bottom and the light is reflected upwards from the aluminium reflector. This creates a soft, diffused light without glare. It is this approach - where the 'shade' is placed on top but does not serve to cover the source - that gives the luminaire its unmistakable look and its witty, ironic character.

Symbol of technological elegance since the 1960s

When Taccia was first introduced in 1962, it immediately became a symbol of modern elegance and Italian industrial design. Its technical sophistication - for example, the blown glass, which often deformed during manufacture due to its size, or the carefully designed heat dissipation of the bulb - was ahead of its time. Today, Taccia is not only a functional lighting fixture, but also a collector's and museum piece that graces the interiors of design galleries around the world.

Designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni

Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002) and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni (1913-1968) were important Italian designers and architects who made an indelible mark on the history of modern design. Together they created dozens of iconic products that are characterized by their ingenuity, functionality and aesthetics. Their collaboration began after Achille joined the studio that Pier Giacomo ran with his older brother Livio in 1944. After Livio left in 1952, Achille and Pier Giacomo formed an inseparable team until Pier Giacomo's death in 1968. Among their most famous creations is the Arco light, which is still in production today and has become a symbol of the design intelligence of post-war Italy.
